A Big Ten rivalry and an SEC school heading to Hawaii highlight the list of 11 college football games taking place on Saturday, Aug. 27. Nebraska vs. Northwestern at 12:30 p.m. ET is the only Power-5 matchup on the Week 0 college football schedule, and the Wildcats will look to avenge a 49-point loss to Nebraska last year. Meanwhile, Hawaii hasn’t hosted an SEC opponent in 19 years, but that drought will end at 10:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network as Vanderbilt visits the Aloha State. Caesars Sportsbook has the Commodores as 9.5-point favorites in the latest Week 0 college football spreads.

Even with the massive blowout last year, Nebraska is just an 11-point favorite over Northwestern. The Week 0 college football lines have a spread as large as 26.5 points and as small as 1.5, so Vegas is expecting varying levels of competitiveness for the opening week. Before locking in any college football picks for Week 0 of the 2022 season, be sure to see the latest college football predictions from SportsLine’s proven model.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times. Top college football predictions for Aug. 27, 2022

One of the top college football picks the model is recommending for Saturday: Wyoming (+14) stays within the spread against Illinois in a 4 p.m. ET kickoff in Champaign, Ill. The Fighting Illini didn’t show much fight with their passing attack last year, which was among the worst in the nation. Illinois had the fewest passing yards in the Big Ten and ranked among the bottom 10 nationally in completion percentage (51.2%), yards per completion (5.8) and passer rating (109.7).

Meanwhile, Wyoming upgraded its aerial attack by adding graduate transfer Andrew Peasley from Utah State. He is already a threat on the ground and had a 59-yard touchdown run last season, but he should exploit the Illini through the air as well. He’ll share a backfield with running back Titus Swen, who had a pair of 160-plus rushing yard games late last season.

Led by Swen, Wyoming is projected to average a healthy 5.2 yards per carry in the simulations, while Illinois is projected to finish with under a 4.5 rushing average. With Peasley’s dual-threat abilities, the Cowboys are expected to keep the Illini defense off balance, and the model has this as being a 7-point game. Thus, Wyoming (+14) is expected to cover well over 60% of the time, while the Over (43) clears with a couple points to spare. See which other teams the model likes here.
