Some of you might have read that and thought that this is just the new generation becoming too reliant on technology. In England, you would be known as a “Luddite”. Someone scared of change and prefers things to be the way they used to be.
But this article is for people like you! I want to try and convince you that technology doesn’t make things worse, it makes things better.
“It’s tearing us apart”
One of the most common misconceptions about technology is that it’s pulling us further apart from each other. People spend all day on their phones, rather than talking to one another.
But what do you think it is that we’re doing on our phones all day?
All we do is talk to one another. The days of meeting someone once and then never talking again are over. Because of social media, we’re able to stay in contact with friends we meet, friends who move away, and friends who live in different places to where we do.
We can expand our bubbles
And it’s not just the people we’ve met in real life. Technology allows us to connect to people who we otherwise wouldn’t be able to.
Usually, these are people who have a common interest to us. People who love the same things that we love.
I know what you’re thinking “What if it’s a 50-year-old man?”. And that is a legitimate concern. But if someone is regularly uploading new pictures of themselves, and is even able to video chat with you, then there’s an almost 100% chance that the person you’re talking to is a real person.
I see no reason why your friends should be confined to your geographical location.
We can keep on top of everything
The world that we’re living in today can be very hectic. We’ve got so many things that we need to be doing, and it can be easy to forget about them.
But thankfully, technology is here to help us. To ensure that we’re getting done all of the things that need to get done. Whether that’s a meeting, finding a new job, going to a concert, or just doing your cooking.
With the help of tech, you won’t ever forget anything that you need to do.
You can learn more
The idea that you stop learning when you leave school is a complete and utter myth. Just because you’re no longer sitting in a classroom, doesn’t mean that you know everything that there is to know about the world.
And with the internet, there is an endless of learning to be done. It’s true, there is a fair deal of fake news, and it’s important to engage in critical thinking. But once you learn to pick the true from the false from the opinion, you can find a goldmine of information.
No matter what you’re interested in, you can learn about it.
